William Arthur Breakspeare (1856-1914)

William Arthur Breakspeare RBA RBSA ROI was a British artist born in Birmingham who studied in Birmingham, Antwerp and Paris. He concentrated on painting 18th century costume pieces but his works cover many genres including landscapes and portraits. Friends with Edwin Harris he was a founding member of the Birmingham Art Circle and spent time in Newlyn, Cornwall with other 'Birmingham boys' who were establishing a colony of artists in the area. He exhibited regularly at, among others, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (34), the Royal Academy (21) and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI, 52).
