Carmichael's marine pictures show the sea in all its moods, but here is a restful example of his work. A summer's day, the sea flat calm in Dutch inshore waters, fishermen check their crab pots as a sailing barge loaded with hay sails between them and a smaller barge being readied. Signed and dated 1853.
