Super quality summer landscape in this early work by Dutch artist Jan Willem van Borselen. The side-saddle riding woman alerts her companions to the sunset and the views across the flat lands below, which from their position in the hills must be quite extensive. Lovely depiction of light with a woodland shaded foreground, the mid-ground still bright, illuminating the cattle and sheep around the farm's pond, and clouds warmed by the setting sun in still crisp blue skies. Signed 'J.W. van Borselen Fec' (Fecit) and dated 1848, lower left. In untouched original condition and housed in its magnificent original frame.
