George Smith RSA (1870 - 1934)

The Scottish artist George Smith was born in Mid Calder, Midlothian, and died in Edinburgh. He painted mainly landscapes and animals, particularly horses and working horses such as plough teams.

Educated at George Watsons College in Edinburgh George Smith studied art at the Board of Manufacturers School, Edinburgh, and in Antwerp under Verlat. His paintings capture the charm and spirit of working farm horses.

He exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Glasgow Institute of Fine Art, the Aberdeen Artists Society between 1896 and 1931 and the Liverpool Galleries.
