By the great animal, dog, sporting and genre painter of Bamburgh, Northumberland. This is a sensitive and somewhat poignant portrait of a favourite terrier. It was dedicated by John Charlton to his son Jackie on his birthday and is entitled 'from Dad, 1st. July 1902'. John Charlton had two sons both of whom were tragically cut down in the first World War. Charlton died soon after and a memorial to them all can be seen in Lanercost Priory.
